Gold lot size calculator (XAUUSD).

How many lots of gold for your risk? Enter your entry and stop-loss prices. A standard lot of gold is 100 troy ounces, so every $1 move in price is $100 per lot.

%

Contract size = units per lot. For indices, metals and oil it differs between brokers — check the symbol’s lot size in your platform.

Example: gold with 0.5% risk

Risk: 0.5% of $100,000 = $500 Stop distance: 4,000.00 − 3,985.00 = $15.00 Loss per lot: $15.00 × 100 oz = $1,500 Position size: $500 ÷ $1,500 = 0.333 → 0.33 lots (risking $495)

Gold position sizing, step by step

Gold moves in dollars, not pips, which is why lot sizes on XAUUSD are much smaller than on forex. A $15 stop that would be a tight trade on gold costs $1,500 per standard lot.

Pips on gold are confusing

Some brokers call $0.01 a pip on gold, others $0.10. This calculator uses the price difference from your chart, so there’s nothing to convert.

Check the contract size

100 oz per lot is the norm, and some brokers list gold as GOLD instead of XAUUSD. If your platform shows a different contract size, enter it above.

Silver

Switch the instrument to XAGUSD — a standard silver lot is usually 5,000 oz.

Exchange rates are ECB reference rates from Frankfurter, updated once a working day. Results are guidance — check them against your platform before you trade.
